A 400-level student of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) has died of injuries he was said to have sustained when he was attacked by a school gang on Wednesday, sparking a chain of other events in the institution.
It was gathered that the death of the student, said to be the leader of KK, an alleged cult group, heightened anger among the members of the group and they allegedly engineered the chaos, with the rival ALORA group being the main target.
The clash was said to have started in the early hours of Thursday in one of the students’ residents in Iworoko with the leader of the KK, identified as Falade Sola, and other members of his group sustaining serious injuries.
Sources claimed that Falade had a deep cut on his head and died from the injury on Friday at the University Teaching Hospital Ado Ekiti while they also alleged that a candle light procession was held in his honour at his residence on Friday night.
The Ekiti State police command, through its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Mohammed Jimoh, confirmed the incident, saying the timely intervention of the men of the command saved the situation.
Jimoh, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said two suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident, saying they are now in police net to assist the police in the course of its investigation.
Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of EKSU, Mr. Olubunmi Ajibade, proved abortive as his telephones were said to be switched off but reports in the local media stated that the Vice Chancellor of the university has put the ongoing 1st semester examinations on hold.
