Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu, has kicked off with 560 students admitted into five departments for National Diploma, Pre-ND and other professional courses for two-year programmes.
Courses offered by the institution include, Marine Engineering, Nautical science and Marine technology. Others are, Fisheries and Fisheries Technology and Business Management Technology.
Provost of the institution, Dr Dittimi Johnson, while fielding questions from journalists, said that the school was established in 2006, adding that full academic activities started late 2010.
He noted that the advantages that would accrue from the institution to the host community were enormous and that it was the best thing that would happen to Burutu people.
He added that graduates of the institution would fit into the oil industries and other areas and can also be self employed.
