Reports of a terrible armed robbery attack at Bowen University a while ago just came to us at Campus Heat through one of our representatives in the school.
The gang of armed robbers who were unfortunately successful in the operation after several Gun fights with the Mobile Policemen in and outside the school compound invaded 4 Banks; 2 outside school (Intercontinental Bank and First Bank) and 2 inside school (Sterling Bank and Skye Bank).
The attack occured during school hours so students were reportedly running all over school as bullets were being released sporadically by the robbers..Even pregnant women who were currently observing their antenatal check up at the schools hospital took to their heels.
Reports have it that 3 People have been killed and 5 Fatally injured but the students would be at the chapel this evening ..so the full breakdown of the attack would be gotten across.
A police officer simply identified as Atama was the only person that was shot dead in the 30-minute bank robbery operation yesterday while four other people sustained various degrees of injuries.
The bandits who stormed the banks in three vehicles at about 9.50 a.m used explosives to gain entrance into the four banks and they were said to have carted away millions of Naira from the customers and officials of the banks.
The NPMDA Secretariat was said to be the target of the gang because of its strategic location coupled with the knowledge that it is a hide-out for security men attached to the banks.
According to the Chairman of NPMDA in Iwo, Mr. Lukman Hussen, members were saved from bloodbath because they only hold their meetings at the Secretariat on Fridays.
It was gathered that the Divisional Police Officer and the Head of Mobile Unit of the Osun State Police Command held a closed door security meeting at the Iwo Divisional Police station.
The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Solomon Olusegun who confirmed the robbery attack said that the command was on top of the situation.
