A MAN allegedly sat on his stepdaughter’s chest and stabbed her before pouring vodka on her and setting the five-year-old alight after she asked for a snack, a court heard.
Thomas McClellan, 25, of Michigan, is said to have “snapped” when five-year-old Luna Younger refused to leave his room and kept asking for food, during a preliminary hearing in 55th District Court on Thursday.
According to the New York Daily News, McClellan told cops he wrestled the girl to the ground, stab on her hips and stabbed her multiple times.
He then wrapped her body in a blanket, poured vodka on it and set it on fire in the bedroom in an attempt to destroy evidence, investigators said.
Delhi Township fire department were called to the scene after flames spread through the ground-floor apartment.
Firefighter Corey Drolett, who found Luna‘s body, said he knew it was already too late.
“I knew the victim had expired,” he said.
But he handed the girl through a window and asked firefighters to “very lightly” perform CPR.
“Based on the situation, (I) felt that would show (the mother) that we were attempting some effort,” Drolett added.
His wife, Victoria McClellan, told officials she was at work when her daughter was killed but that she and her husband were “bickering” before she left.
Thomas McClellan was identified as a suspect soon after the child’s body was found by firefighters in the Old Orchard Apartment Complex.
McClellan, who has no criminal history, admitted the horrific crime to police about four hours after the fire call.
He faces first-degree murder, child abuse and arson charges – and if convicted, he could face life in prison.
A YouCaring fund for Luna’s family has already raised more than £10,000.
