A woman who was convicted of pushing her husband to his death from a high rise has been found dead in her prison cell.

Amber Hilberling, 25, was pronounced dead on Monday at the Mabel Bassett Correctional Center, Oklahoma, in the US, where she had been serving a 25 year sentence.

She was found guilty of second degree murder in 2011 after being convicted for killing her husband US Air Force veteran Joshua Hilberling.

She pushed him from the 25th floor of a high rise.

Terri Watkins, spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections said the state medical examiners officer would determine the cause of her death.

But a source said she had been found hanging in her cell after appearing to have committed suicide.

During the trial prosecutors alleged Hilberling shoved her 23-year-old husband through the window after a row over separating.

She was 19 at the time and seven months pregnant with their child.

She claimed the windows were “unusually thin” and it was an accident.

During the trial in 2013, Joshua Hilberling’s family testified their son had packed his bags to leave on the eve of the murder, after being abused by his wife.

Jurors saw a copy of an emergency protective order which he had got a month before he died.

It was alleged she had thrown a lamp at him and he needed stitches in his head.

However they missed their court date and it was dismissed.

Amber testified she pushed Joshua in self-defence, in June 2011, after he grabbed her by the shoulders.

She claimed they were having a heated argument and he was never meant to go through the window.

At the time her mother claimed that Amber, at 5ft 5ins, could never have pushed Joshua who was 6ft 6ins and a trained military man, out of the window.

On Monday her stepfather Bryan Whitlock, told the station KTUL there was “no way” Amber, who had just celebrated her birthday would have killed herself.

He said she was “excited” about the prospect of telling her side of the story in a planned interview and was taking college courses and speaking daily to her young son, Levi.
