
As the 3rd edition of Nigerian Private University Games Association (NPUGA) billed for American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola approaches, more universities have express their readiness to participate at the sporting event.
The Games that is scheduled to commence on December 11th – 20th at the University is expected to live up to its billing as eligible students will be showcasing their talents at the weeklong sporting event which in its 3rd edition.
According to the President of NPUGA, Dr John Busari Okoro the Games is getting recognition on yearly basis, as more universities have signified interest to associate with the Games based on the laudable records made at its two previous editions.
Dr Okoro who also doubles as the Director of Sports at Igbinedion University, Okada hinted that this year edition is going to be well organized than the previous ones and would be the beginning of massive sports development in the new generation universities.
While mentioning the new entrants into the Games, he said that Redeemers University of Nigeria, Mowe, Taisan University, Anambra, Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State, Wukari Jubilee University, Taraba, Achievers University, Owo in Ondo State, Reinassance University, Enugu, and Madona University, Okija in Anambra and many more would surely partake at the sporting events.
He said “at present, these are the Universities that have confirmed their readiness to take part in the sporting event at the forthcoming Games in Yola. Nine different sports will be contested for by the athletes during the weeklong event. We are still expecting more universities at the Games, believing that they will pick their registration forms in due course.”
“Despite the fact that we had the maiden edition of this Games in 2005 at the Igbinedion University, Okada with five Universities, the competition at the event was so keen that at the next edition held at Lead City University, Ibadan , the number of universities increased to eleven. They are Benson Idahosa University, (BIU), Benin-city, Bowen University, Iwo, Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo and Igbinedion University, Okada.”
“Others are Joseph Ayo Babalola Univeristy (JABU), Ikeji Arakeji, Lead- City, Ibadan, Bells University of Technology, Otta, Ajayi Crowther University , Oyo, Crescent University, Abeokuta, American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola and Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin. All these universities proved their mettle at the 2007 Games in Ibadan, and it was a big success event.” Okoro said.
