A teenager who was stabbed to death on his birthday in a club in London was the brother of an EastEnders actress.
Belinda Owusu, who plays Libby Fox in the soap, issued an emotional plea to the public to help track down his killers after brother Ziggy Worrell-Owusu died from being knifed in a row at a shisha club.
The 27-year-old said he was attacked in the early hours of October 27 while attending a friend’s 18th birthday party at the Basement Shisha Lounge in Goodmayes, near Ilford, north east London, the night before which fell on the day of his own 19th birthday.
She said her brother was not involved in any fighting but there were several different groups at the club that night and not everyone knew each other.
Belinda told the London Evening Standard:
“We are not completely sure if it was their intention to hurt him or if he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time but he was not fighting.
“There were lots of arguments going on that night but Ziggy was a good kid. If he saw someone in trouble he would help them.
“We have a big family and everyone is changed. We just want to know what happened and why it happened so we can have some closure.
“I don’t know how someone can stay quiet and live with this for the rest of their life.”
The actress said her brother was “very kind” growing up and “had a good heart”.
She said Ziggy, who attended the Royal Alexandra and Albert School, had excelled at sports and had been a member of a local rugby club.
He had recently become an apprentice working for a company installing solar panels on homes and was looking forward to the future.
Belinda, who was 17 when she joined EastEnders, added that the cast had been supporting her since the 19-year-old’s death and “helping out in every way they can”.
She is set to return to the BBC One soap this week as it’s “harder when you are sitting doing nothing”.
She was in the soap for four years until 2010 when she left to pursue her acting career but returned to EastEnders in the same role in 2014.
In the show her character Libby is the daughter of Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Owen Turner (Lee Ross), and half-sister of Chelsea Fox (Tiana Benjamin).
Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Packer, who is leading the murder inquiry, said there were about 100 people in the club at the time and many of them witnessed the attack.
He said: “I still need to identify a number of people who were at the party and would encourage anyone with any information to get in touch.
“A popular young man has had his life taken away and your information, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, could be vital to piecing together the events of that evening.”
He also appealed for people with phone footage of the party to come forward.
Three teenagers, two aged 17 and one 19, have been arrested in connection with the killing and bailed pending further inquries.
