The Police High Command has paraded four suspected kidnappers and killers of Reverend Father John Alex Adeyi of Catholic Diocese of Otukpo and Priest of St. Bernard’s Parish Okpoga, Benue State.

The hoodlums are Suleiman Gina, 30, (leader), Saidu Abdullahi, 28, Aliyu Garba, 26, and Haruna Idi, 27. Also paraded were 13 suspected pipeline vandals and three cyber hackers.

It would be recalled that Rev. Adeyi was kidnapped on April 24 and subsequently killed after the gang allegedly collected N1.7m ransom. Adeyi’s tragic killing had generated great concern, controversy and frenzied search that even attracted the attention of most Catholic faithful in the Vatican City, but to no avail.

The kidnappers, who claimed to have collected only N1.5m of the sum, were reportedly trailed and arrested by the Intelligence Response Team, IRT, attached to IGP Monitoring Unit at separate areas in Enugu, Bauchi and Benue states. When quizzed, the deputy leader of the gang, Abdullahi, confessed he shot the priest dead.

‘‘I shot him (the priest) dead because we were afraid of a group of vigilante members who were pursuing us in the bush,’’ he said.

He added that they were tempted to collect and share the ransom after killing their victim. Besides, it was reported that during investigation, the hoodlums led the police to a forest in Orokam area of the state where three locally fabricated guns, one Nokia Lumia mobile phone and one black Gicent mobile phone, model M9 belonging to the victim and used for negotiation by his abductors, were recovered.
